Report: If A-Rod Is Banned For Life, Rangers Will Still Owe Him Over $40M

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Yes, the Yankees owe Alex Rodriguez a ton of money.

But in case you forgot, so do the Texas Rangers, who traded Rodriguez to New York in Feb. 2004. After playing for the Mariners from 1994-2000, A-Rod signed a 10-year, $252 million deal with Texas, at the time the richest contract in sports history.

The 14-time All-Star is expected to receive a suspension as soon as Friday for this connection to the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal. He could be suspended for the remainder of this season and next season, or receive a lifetime ban from the league.

If Rodriguez is indeed banned for life, the Yankees will likely be freed from the roughly $100 million that he’s owed until his contract expires in 2017.

Texas, on the other hand, would still be on the hook, according to the Dallas Morning News.
