SASKATOON – A 17-year-old teen has been charged after a canine unit took a bite out of him following a chase Friday morning.

It started around 1:35 a.m. when police were alerted that a man was breaking into vehicles in the Brairwood area.

About a half-hour later, responding officers saw a 2006 Acura TL leaving the area with no lights on.

Police attempted to stop the car but the driver refused to stop.

A chased ensued and eventually the suspect drove into a field near Preston Avenue and 108th Street where he abandoned the car and fled.

At that point, a canine unit tracked down the suspect and bit him in the buttocks.

The teen has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

He will remain in custody until his first court appearance.
